From towers to trenches, we remember Arthur William Wright
On the beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon of the 18th April members of the branch met at Chicheley to commemorate the life of Arthur William Wright. A good and varied practice was held and members rang Grandsire, Cloisters, Beverley, Stedman & Kent amongst other methods. It was agreed that the bells would not be rung half muffled on this memorial occasion, in order to reflect the wishes of Mr Wright’s parents 100 years earlier.
The North Bucks Branch Memorial Candle was lit and burned brightly throughout the practice and later refreshments. A framed life story was also on display and Linda also told members a little about the life of Arthur and advised that the living relatives of Arthur were delighted he was being remembered. Visitors to the church who were staying at the hotel next door asked lots of questions about ringing and expressed an interest in learning. Hopefully they will call into their local church and commence their ringing journey soon.
Following the ringing members tucked into Lemon Drizzle, Victoria Sandwich cake and cup cakes while enjoying catching up with each other.
The following quarter peal was rung to commemorate the death of Arthur William Wright. A Chicheley ringer; he died whilst fighting for his country on 14th April1915.
