Ringing in May this year to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of VE day was reported in The Telegraph, The Guardian and on the BBC amongst others.
In the lead up to the 2012 Olympics bells and bell ringing were identified as something quintessentially English and used extensively as part of the run up to the event including Bradley Wiggins striking the opening bell as part of the opening ceremony. Articles included one on learning to ring in the Telegraph whilst The Sunday Times reports on a bell ringing cacophony for the Olympics.
Other positive news stories have looked at bell ringing from a fitness perspective.
More sombre events highlight the part that bells play in national identity. A recent example is the reporting of church bells ringing out across Charelston earlier this year.
