From towers to trenches, we remember William Richard Watson
Although born in Watford in ca 1896 to parents William Richard and Sarah Elizabeth Watson, William was living in Buckinghamshire in 1901 and Bedfordshire in 1911. At the time of his death his parents were living in Sunny Bank, Rosebery Avenue, Linslade. His father, William, was employed as a Railway Goods Guard and son William had become a ringer at St Barnabus Church, Linslade.
William enlisted at Bletchley and became a private in the Royal Army Medical Corps serving in the 99th Field Ambulance. During his service William sustained injury and was treated in the 46th Casualty Clearing Station. On the 7 October 1918, at the age of 23, William died from his wounds.
William was buried in Delsaux Farm Cemetery, Beugny, Pas de Calais, France in plot 1. B. 1. His headstone was personalised by his father with the words:
“Until this day breaks”
